The products combine the traditional Zapotec style with modern styles to create truly unique designs.While the company was based in Oaxaca, our building was in Chihuahua, so in addition to designing the space, we were tasked with exploring how the company might change if it were based in Chihuahua.
MZ Fair trade (formerly Manos Zapotecas) is a company based in Oaxaca, Mexico. The company was founded in 2009 by Shelly Tennyson with the goal to perpetuate beautiful traditions of Zapotec artisans and connect socially conscious consumers around the world.
The Tarahumara tribe has withstood the test of time. The tribe continues to stick with their ancient traditions, despite the world around them clinging to modernity. While their nomadic lifestyle and hunting and gathering for food may not be traditional practice today, these practices are traditional to them.Their strong sense of kinship is a part of the tribe that is undying. The Tarahumara have an unbreakable bond with their traditions and their community. The combination of these two ideals forms Resilient Kinship.
